Only last week I was talking about how the Queen Elizabeth 2 could be headed to the Thames to become a floating hotel. Well it seems that a lot can change in a week (apparently). It has now come to light that the QE2 will be moved to Asia to become a luxury floating hotel. So I got 50% of my last article right! The Dubai owners have announced that the Oceanic group based in Hong Kong and Singapore will revamp the iconic vessel to provide a new level of luxury accommodation without the need for land.  The group have not confirmed exactly where in Asia the QE2 will be based, but wherever she ends up I’m sure previous passengers will travel to visit.

When I first started at cruise the QE2 was just doing her final year. Almost everybody I spoke with, who had taken a trip on the QE2 loved her. “A Real Cruise ship” most people would say. All the niggles on board, if on other cruise ships would be an issue, but on the QE2 they seemed to form part of her character. She was not perfect but had something a lot of modern cruise ships do not, soul. Not many cruise ships can compete with sheer number of passengers over the years she carried, nor the history the ship and brand was steeped in.

What I am saying, is that although it is a great same she is not coming back home, at least the diehard fans and anybody else who wants to experience the QE2 can have their chance. Once again the Queen Elizabeth 2 will have her chance to do what she is best at.  Catering for her loyal guests.
