Over the past five years as you can imagine I have checked a cruise or two. I was asked the other day if cruising is getting any cheaper, and there is a very straight forward answer to this question.......YES it is. When I first started, you would be lucky if you could get cabin availability three months prior to departure, now you can get something booked three days before. Why is this? More competition, the economic climate, more ships to fill? Its actually a combination of all three and more.........
I was pricing a Princess cruise up the other day around the British Isles, and for 12 nights the cost was actually £399 each. The truth of it is that cruise lines need to get bums on seats. There are more and more cruise ships out there, which in turn are getting larger and larger. Due to the current economic climate people are holding onto their money for longer so cruise lines have to do more to get the bookings. Most of the clients I have spoken with over the past few months, had been either waiting or still are waiting for their cruise to go down.
So what is the moral of the story? This year and probably next are going to be very good years to get a very good bargain for your cruise. So make the most of it, as at some point things are more than likely to go the other way again.
